Cult Classics + Collection
It's taken me some time to really understand what happens at the point of reaching VIP060 (Shogun Assassin) in the Cult Classics. Vipco 90's releases. Here below we will see a continuation of the Cult Classic family of releases, however, the VIP numbers begin to jump and the release dates are challenging to say the least. However, as a collectors guide, i am going to suggest that we see the Vipco collection, this far at least, as being made up on the 60 titles in the Pre-Cert era and then again 60 titles in the 90's Sell Thru era. As we hit titles in the cult classics collection from VIP061, we witness what feels like a marketing bonanza from Vipco. You will see familiar VIP numbers, however now, the films have new sleeve art, often with the words 'Extreme Version', 'Widescreen Edition', 'Digitally Remastered Edition' it's clear that what we are looking at here is not so much Vipco finding titles to tantalize our brains, but a possible updating of the already established family of films. The Danish releases also sit within the Cult Classic family, and appear to be the full stop for the Cult Classic era of releases before we jump into the early 2000 Vipco Vaults of Horror collection that features the skull on the spine. I have given the Danish films their own section, however to allow us to bridge the gap between Cult Classic and Vaults of Horror, i feel the best thing to do is have this + Collection to house the films that don't sit comfortably in the main collection of 60 titles.

The Cult Classic Collection continues below chronologically in terms of release year, However, the titles go back into the Original catalogue. So Despite having lower VIP numbers, these titles were released after everything you have seen so far. These titles also have 'Extreme Version', 'UNCUT', and Digitally remastered on the spine and often don't have Cult Classic written on them, but So that;s why i feel they sit between what would end the Cult Classic era and begin the Vipco Vaults of Horror collection. It's only when we see these releases as i am proposing here, that we can account for the strange catalogue number discrepancies that we see in the collections. If you are a collector like i am,. having a line of corresponding numeral releases matter, and maybe Mike was one of the first businesses to cash in on collectors love for matching titles and catalogue numbers. So for this reason i want to help future and present collectors with how to manage this part of the Vipco collecting catalogue by proposing this adapted way of looking at the digitally remastered era of Vipco.
